  • Days of Dialogue: Ta-Nehisi Coates, Lecture Follow-up (2nd in series)

    On Nov. 20, 2016, Award-winning author of Between the World and Me and national correspondent for The Atlantic, Ta-Nehisi Coates visited Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH, and gave a lecture on “On Race in America.” His words were thought-provoking and challenging. YWCA Greater Cincinnati is collaborating with Union Institute & University, and IJPC (Intercommunity Justice & Peace Center) to offer a series of community dialogues to follow-up the Coates lecture and continue the conversation.

  • Revolution of Values Potluck

    On April 4th 1967, Dr. Martin Luther King gave an impassioned speech before a crowd on the steps of Riverside Church in New York City condemning the atrocity of the Vietnam War. He called for people to be obstinate in the face of the evils of warfare, and said that, “We as a nation must undergo a radical revolution of values. We must rapidly begin the shift from a ‘thing-oriented’ society to a ‘person-oriented’ society. When machines and computers, profit motives and property rights are considered more important than people, the giant triplets of racism, materialism, and militarism are incapable of being conquered.” It has become grossly apparent today that these inhuman triplets of despair have shown their stubborn implantation within the very fabric of our society. To honor Dr. King’s charge to help our society embark on a “revolution of values”, IJPC will host a potluck to reflect on Dr. King’s speech.

    YWCA Greater Cincinnati is collaborating with the Center for Race, Gender, and Social Justice at the University of Cincinnati College of Law, and IJPC (Intercommunity Justice & Peace Center) to offer a series of community dialogues to follow-up the Coates lecture and continue the conversation. The third in the series, Days of Dialogue: Ta-Nehisi Coates, will offer a safe space for community members to talk about and unpack some of the concepts Coates shared during his lecture.

He is currently an Associate Professor of Theology and Director of Immigration Initiatives at the Institute for Latino Studies at the University of Notre Dame

    Universal Health Care Action Network of Ohio (UHCAN Ohio) will sponsor a Faith and Health Forum: A Call for Political Courage, Vision, Leadership, and Faith from Faith Leaders of Southwest Ohio. This will be an opportunity to hear from area religious leaders about the role of faith in working toward just health care policies at the national and local level. We have invited our two Ohio Senators and local Congressional representatives to attend and listen to our concerns.
