Peace Builders Potluck

October 15, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Calling all peace builders! Please bring a dish to share to our quarterly potluck, sponsored by the NonViolence Alliance of Greater Cincinnati (NVA) & Save Our Souls (S.O.S.) Art.

In honor of Indigenous People’s Day and as a precursor to our Annual Gathering with Winona LaDuke on October 28th, we will be showing a partial screening of First Daughter and the Black Snake. This film follows Winona LaDuke, a long time indigenous and environmental rights activist, through her struggle to protect native lands from the threat of oil pipelines.

Evening Schedule:

6:00 Introductions and event sharing

6:30: Partial film screening

7:15 Potluck dinner (please bring a dish to share) & conversation

About the film: The “Prophecy of the 7th Fire” says a “black snake” will bring destruction to the earth. We will have a choice of two paths. One is scorched, and one is green. For Winona (Ojibwe for “first daughter”), the “black snake” is oil trains and pipelines. When she learns that Canadian-owned Enbridge plans to route a new pipeline through her tribe’s 1855 Treaty land, she and her community spring into action to save the sacred wild rice lakes and preserve their traditional indigenous way of life.

See and hear Winona LaDuke in-person at our Annual Gathering, Resilience: Planting Seeds and Growing Movements, on October 28th.
