Ohio House Bill 26: Immigration Enforcement
Ohio has introduced HB 26, the “Enact Protecting Ohio Communities Act.”

Enforcing immigration laws has always been the responsibility of our federal government. However, House Bill 26, would change that and force local and state law enforcement agencies to do the federal government’s job – including requiring them to join the 287(g) program. This bill will increase racial profiling, criminalize innocent people, and lead to the unnecessary separation of numerous families.
HB 26 also targets “Sanctuary Cities” that have policies reassuring the public that they will not be interrogated about their immigration status. The bill demands local entities fall in line with federal immigration enforcement priorities or face a significant cut in state funding.
Lastly, the bill requires more agencies to verify the immigration status of their clients receiving local or state benefits. Occupational licensing boards and commissions would also be forced to verify potential candidates. It’s as if nearly every government-funded agency will be coerced into being part of the deportation machine.
HB 26 has been assigned to the Ohio House Public Safety Committee. Please speak out against this terrible bill and keep families together!
