Detaining immigrants is not a new concept in the United States. However, the practice of arresting and incarcerating immigrants who have no criminal record has grown immensely in recent years. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detains immigrants in federal facilities, county jails and private prisons. The conditions in these detention centers are reported to be terribly neglectful. Many detainees are those who have lived in the United States for many years, as well as asylum seekers, women, and children.
