Parking Directions *
*A note about extra parking: Mt. Auburn Presbyterian Church has permission to use an overflow parking area that is just one driveway east of the church’s lot entrance on McMillan Street. All volunteers are encouraged to park in this lot during the event. There will be signs at the parking entry points and also some volunteers to guide you to this convenient extra group of parking spaces. See the parking directions for more details.
This is an inclusive family event. Several volunteers will prepare 6 tasty stews – 3 vegetarian and 3 with meat, from different cultural cuisines in the church kitchen to serve at the meal.
- AFRICA (West African) Ground Nut Stew – vegetarian dis with yams, peanut butter
- AFRICA (Senegal) Yassa Chicken – chicken stew with Maggi seasoning
- GUATEMALA Pepian – vegetarian stew with pepitas
- MEXICO Pozole Verde – chicken and hominy stew
- BHUTAN Nepal-style black lentil vegetarian dish with jimbu
- EL SALVADOR Chicken with loroco cream sauce – chicken with loroco flowers
You can also expect rice, fresh fruit, and nonalcoholic beverages. The “potluck” portion of the meal will be donations of favorite cookies, dipping breads, and/or other main dish offerings that represent your culture. IMPORTANT: You do not need to bring a food offering to attend. If you bring a food contribution, please drop it off with one of the kitchen staff before entering the event. The kitchen door is on the left just before the main Social Hall entry doors.
This is a FREE event. We will have a donation jar at the welcoming entry table for anyone who wishes to make a donation.
This celebration event will include music, activities for children, delicious food choices, and lively table conversations with translators available. It will be an opportunity for building new friendships and growing connections among all in attendance.
The Social Hall has a capacity of 175 people. It has a handicapped entrance, convenient restrooms, and a piano. We will have seating for 150 people.
WANT TO HELP COOK? Volunteers are gathering at the church the day before, on Saturday, February 25 to make the stews. The planning team is still seeking out more refugees or immigrants willing to be advisors on the cooking/seasoning process.
