SUMMARY:Way of the Cross for Justice - 2022
DESCRIPTION:Join in this Good Friday pilgrimage connecting the suffering of Jesus with the suffering brought about by injustice in our day. Friday\, April 15\, 2022 at 12:00 PM. \nThe event begins at noon at the National Underground Freedom Center where there will be a 30 minute prayerful gathering and instructions for next steps. Afterwards\, all are invited to follow the route of the Cincinnati Bell Connector (streetcar) and read the reflections that pair with the corresponding Connector stop. The closest stop can be found at The Banks – on Second St. between the Freedom Center and Great American Ball Park. \nReflections can be read online on your phone\, or from a handout given at the Freedom Center. New this year – you can listen to the reflections pre-recorded via podcast! Be sure to bring headphones with you to listen along on the streetcar. For a print friendly version of the reflection\, click here. \nA few notes: \n\nIt is free to ride the Connector’s 3.6-mile loop.\nBicycles\, wheelchairs and strollers can be taken onto the Connector.\nThe Connector comes every 12 minutes. Depending on the size of our group\, you may need to wait for another Connector so there is enough room.\nWe have made suggestions of locations where you can get off the Connector to pray through the reflection in the space and even walk to the next stop a short distance away. This is optional.\nYou are welcome to walk\, bike\, or drive along the Connector route if you prefer.\n\nAt the end\, we invite you to return to the Freedom Center with your ribbon to write a statement of hope – in anticipation of the resurrection – and attach it to the cross\, creating a tree of life from this symbol of death. Individuals will be welcomed back to the Freedom Center as they return\, we will not have a formal gathering of the full group. A member of the team will remain at the Freedom Center with the cross until 2:00 PM. \n  \nThank you to our supporters: \nBellarmine Chapel\nChrist Church Cathedral\nClifton United Methodist Church\nCongregation of Divine Providence\nGod Space Community\nImmaculate Heart of Mary Parish\nIntercommunity Justice and Peace Center (IJPC)\nRenting Partnerships \nPlease help spread the word to your network. Linked is a Way of the Cross – Flyer and the event Facebook page. \nQuestions? Allison@IJPCcincinnati.org or 513-864-5784

SUMMARY:FYI: White Supremacy\, Racism\, and Antisemitism—the intersectionality of hate
DESCRIPTION:As white nationalists took to the streets of Charlottesville to protest the removal of confederate monuments\, they spewed racist\, anti-immigrant\, anti-Muslim\, anti-LGBTQ and\, in general\, anti-minority rhetoric. They also shouted Nazi-era antisemitic slogans\, such as “Jews will not replace us” and “Blood and soil.” What forms the framework of this “equal opportunity hate?” And what are the most effective strategies that diverse communities can use to counter this threat? \nThe Cincinnati Regional Coalition Against Hate will host a dialogue with Eric Ward\, longtime civil rights strategist and Director of the Western States Center\, an organization at the forefront of building a progressive movement and just society since 1987. Ward is a national expert on the relationship between hate violence and preserving democratic institutions\, governance\, and inclusive societies\, and he has extensively studied\, researched and written about the modern white nationalist movement. \nWard will tell the story of his civil rights work when the white nationalist movement was engaged in violent paramilitary activity that sought to undermine democratic governance in the Pacific Northwest. He’ll share his learnings about how antisemitism forms the theoretical core of white nationalism\, and how understanding the antisemitism at the root of this movement is key to opposing it. \nJoin us for this important conversation\, “White Supremacy\, Racism\, and Antisemitism—the intersectionality of hate\,” on June 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Freedom Center. Please RSVP here\, and consider sharing our Facebook event with those in your networks who may be interested in attending.
