DESCRIPTION:Join Ignite Peace\, UNDIVIDED\, and the Ola Immigrant Welcome Center for a peaceful candlelight vigil on Tuesday\, July 1 at 8:00 PM outside the Butler County Jail  to shine a light for the 450 immigrants currently detained. \nWe gather in support of Alonzo Tomas Mendez\, a father and man of faith\, unjustly detained in May\, and to call for his release and that of others suffering in silence. \nThis vigil is a call for hope\, dignity\, and justice\, each candle a symbol of solidarity. \nWhat: Candlelight Vigil \nWhen: Tuesday\, July 1\, 2025 at 8:00 PM \nWhere: Butler County Jail\, 705 Hanover St\, Hamilton\, OH \nWho: Faith leaders\, community advocates\, and concerned citizens \nParking Info: Consider carpooling due to limited parking. There is a large lot at the Sheriff’s Office\, which should be mostly empty by 8PM\, as well as an additional lot across the street at the Municipal Court building\, which should also be available. \n  \nLet’s light up the night together.

SUMMARY:Solidarity With Ohio Immigrants
DESCRIPTION:For Human Rights Day\, join us outside the Butler County Jail as we stand in solidarity with all the immigrant detainees currently experiencing abuse and neglect inside detention centers across the country.\n\nCOVID-19 protections will be observed: Wear a mask the whole time\, stand at least 6ft away from one another\, wash your hands and do not attend if you don’t feel well or are having any symptoms of COVID-19. The gathering will be held outside and will be brief.\n\nWe recognize the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Southwest Ohio\, so we will be sure to livestream the event and provide alternative ways for you to participate.\n\nFor those planning to attend\, dress warm and bring signs made with lights or reflective paint. Candles would be powerful too.\nMore information will be posted in the coming days.

Be prepared to walk. \n2:00 PM Xavier University \nParking: Available off of University Drive\, off of Dana. Tell the attendant you are a visitor and they will write you a parking pass. \n5:00 PM Rally at Butler County Jail\nButler County Jail\, 705 Hanover St\, Hamilton\, OH 45011\nParking: Along 9th Street. Use the private address of 935 S 9th St\, Hamilton\, OH 45011 to find the street.\nBus transportation is available to Butler County Jail \n— \nThe Nuns on the Bus Ohio and Intercommunity Justice and Peace Centerinvite students\, immigrant families\, people of faith\, the general public and members of the media to a four day bus tour exposing the unjust system of immigration detention. \nSunday\, March 18\, 2018 – Wednesday\, March 21\, 2018 \nBeginning on Monday\, March 19 a school bus sponsored by Ohio Nuns on the Bus will be made available to anyone who wishes to ride with the group to multiple events in the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area. Hop on\, hop off; ride for an entire day or ride for the whole week! People wishing to attend the tour events do not have to ride the bus\, but the experience of building community while taking collective action by riding a bus paints a powerful image for the world to see. \nEach day\, thousands of undocumented immigrants are forcibly removed from their families and held as criminals in our local jails/detention centers.
