At Pursuing Peace in Cincinnati in September, John Dear shared something that we’ve always known our hearts: People-powered movements create social change.

The Intercommunity Justice and Peace Center was founded as a people-powered movement. For the last 32 years, we have thrived because of supporters who believe in social change. From our rally outside of Portman’s office when DACA was rescinded to our vigils outside of the Death House in Lucasville on the morning of each execution, we are successful because of the people who show up and stand with us.

September 20th was not just a chance to learn from John Dear. It was a launch of our newest initiative – Nonviolent Cincinnati – a coalition of peace builders coming together under a shared vision of nonviolence. Nonviolent Cincinnati is the ultimate people-powered movement. We’re leading the Nonviolent Cincinnati Coalition because it speaks to the final tenant of IJPC’s mission to “promote the creation of a nonviolent society.” In a nonviolent city, we would be free of the death penalty. There would be respect for the rights of immigrants. There would be racial equity.

We need your help to reach our goal. Show your support for IJPC and your community by donating today during our annual Phoneathon Campaign.
