Remembering Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Seventy-five years ago today, an estimated 150,000 people died when the United States dropped the first nuclear bomb on the city of Hiroshima. Three days later, approximately 75,000 people died when the U.S. dropped another nuclear bomb on Nagasaki.

Not only should this anniversary remind us of the innocent people– every one of whom had a name and was loved–who died from nuclear warfare, but it should renew our commitment to peace.

Join IJPC in commemorating this anniversary by watching this video created by our Peace Committee. It features an excerpt from Hiroshima survivor Setsuko Thurlow’s Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech, space for reflection, and music featuring “Harmony of Japan”, an Ohio group.
