SUMMARY:Film Screening and Discussion - Nuclear Savage: The Islands of Secret Project 4.1
DESCRIPTION:The film tells the story of the human impacts of nuclear weapons on the people of the Marshall Islands and the secret radiation experiments that were conducted on them during the time of U.S. nuclear testing in the islands (1946-58) and afterwards. It is a catalyst for discussion about not only nuclear weapons and peace\, but also racism\, colonialism\, and indigenous rights. \nAfter the film screening (55 minutes)\, Rick Wayman of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation in California will host a Q&A and discussion about the film and other issues relating to the Marshall Islands and nuclear weapons. Wayman just returned from two weeks in The Hague\, where he supported the legal team representing the Marshall Islands at the International Court of Justice in their nuclear disarmament lawsuits against India\, Pakistan and the United Kingdom. The Nuclear Age Peace Foundation\, is a consultant to the Marshall Islands and is also supporting their court case against the United States in U.S. Federal Court calling for fulfillment of existing international legal obligations for nuclear disarmament. \nThis event will take place in Alter Hall Room 106

SUMMARY:Rally for Hope: Stop Separating Families
DESCRIPTION:Nationwide\, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has been conducting target enforcement actions\, focusing on immigrant women and children who have arrived from Central America in the last two years. With the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Price Hill in early February\, fear continues to plague the local immigrant community\, many afraid to leave their homes for work or school. Cities across the nation including Chicago\, Minneapolis\, and Raleigh have held public protest and vigils in opposition to these enforcement tactics asking DHS to stop separating families. Local community members and organizations\, including the Archdiocese of Cincinnati\, Catholic Charities of Southwestern Ohio\, Cincinnati Interfaith Workers Center\, ELL Foundation\, Holy Family Church\, Intercommunity Justice and Peace Center\, LULAC\, and NKU Latino Institute for Excellence have come together to plan a Rally for Hope with a message to “Stop Separating Families” for Saturday March 12\, 2016\, from 1:00-3:00pm to show support for the immigrant community. \n  \nWith this intention\, all are invited to join in a rally and two mile walk beginning at Holy Family Church in Price Hill and walking down Grand to Warsaw\, continuing to Kroger and through the Price Hill Community. Showing support for the immigrant community in this public way allows those in fear to know they are not alone and there are many who stand on the side of our immigrant neighbors. Those interested in participating are asked to meet in the parking lot of Holy Family behind the church.

SUMMARY:15 Years Later: The Cincinnati Riots and the Future of the City

SUMMARY:Opposition to Immigration Raids - Meeting
DESCRIPTION:On Christmas Eve\, an article in the Washington Post shared the unfortunate news that the US is planning raids to deport immigrants who have already received removal orders. The article states this may happen as soon as January. The American Immigration Lawyers Association sent a letter to President Obama in opposition to this Department of Homeland Security plan on New Year’s Eve. As 2016 has just begun\, we must commit to supporting the immigrant community into the New Year and beyond.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin the Intercommunity Justice and Peace Center and the Cincinnati Interfaith Worker Center as we gather together to better understand the situation and mobilize against deportations in our community and in our country. A meeting will be held at 5:30pm on Thursday 1/7 in the lobby of the Peaslee Neighborhood Center (215 E 14th Street Cincinnati\, OH 45202).

SUMMARY:Honoring Armistice Day and Veterans' Day
DESCRIPTION:IJPC invites you to take a few moments in recognition of Armistice Day/Veterans’ Day. Armistice Day was declared 97 years ago in 1918 to mark the end of World War I\, “the war to end all wars”\, and to recognize and honor the sacrifice and courage of all military veterans. We will gather under the flags at Friendship Park on Wednesday\, November 11\, at 11:00am to hear a statement from Veterans for Peace and to give all who wish an opportunity to ring a peace bell and share their hope or prayer for a peaceful world.

SUMMARY:Voices of Experience: The Death Penalty
DESCRIPTION:Terry Collins oversaw 33 executions from 2001 to 2011. Now\, he is a strong advocate for repeal of the death penalty. Derrick Jamison sat on Death Row for over 20 years before he was finally freed …because he was innocent. The death penalty is at the forefront of national politics\, especially in Ohio. Pope Francis recently called us to “advocate at different levels for the global abolition of the death penalty.” What does this mean for us as people of faith? Bring your questions to this unique panel discussion: \nMonday\, November 9th\n 7:00-8:30pm\n Nativity of Our Lord Parish\n 5935 Pandora Ave.\n Cincinnati\, OH 45213\n Panel to be held in the cafeteria
