SUMMARY:Revolution of Values Potluck
DESCRIPTION:On April 4th 1967\, Dr. Martin Luther King gave an impassioned speech before a crowd on the steps of Riverside Church in New York City condemning the atrocity of the Vietnam War. He called for people to be obstinate in the face of the evils of warfare\, and said that\, “We as a nation must undergo a radical revolution of values. We must rapidly begin the shift from a ‘thing-oriented’ society to a ‘person-oriented’ society. When machines and computers\, profit motives and property rights are considered more important than people\, the giant triplets of racism\, materialism\, and militarism are incapable of being conquered.” It has become grossly apparent today that these inhuman triplets of despair have shown their stubborn implantation within the very fabric of our society. \nTo honor Dr. King’s charge to help our society embark on a “revolution of values”\, IJPC will host a potluck to reflect on Dr. King’s speech. There is no better way to foster discussion\, invite open-mindedness\, and bring about awareness than by engaging in humanity’s oldest expression of good fellowship: a meal. IJPC invites you and your friends to join us to listen to excerpts of Dr. King’s speech\, discuss its meanings and the pertinence it has within our society\, while enjoying a community potluck.

SUMMARY:Daniel Rudd: Calling a Church to Justice
DESCRIPTION:In May of 1890\, The Christian Solider\, an African American newspaper\, identified the Catholic journalist and activist Daniel Arthur Rudd as the “greatest negro Catholic in America.” Yet many Catholics today are unaware of Rudd’s efforts to bring about positive social change during the early decades of the Jim Crow era. \nDr. Gary Agee\, Associate Professor of Church History at Anderson University will present a compelling look at the life and work of this visionary who found inspiration in his Catholic faith to fight for the principles of liberty and justice.

SUMMARY:Bridges Not Walls
DESCRIPTION:IJPC will be participating in the Cincinnati location of Faith and Public Life’s campaign of “Bridges Not Walls”. February 17th marks the one year anniversary of Pope Francis’ visit to the US/Mexico border. When Pope Francis prayed for migrants and refugees at the border he transformed a dusty fence into an oasis of hope. Now just days into the new administration\, immigrant and refugee families are now at greater risk than ever.  As people of faith\, we must respond with one voice: “Build bridges\, not walls.” Together our voices can echo through the halls of Congress. Join us on the 17th OUTSIDE of Senator Portman’s office for a peaceful demonstration.
