SUMMARY:IJPC Movie Night: Comprehensive Immigration Reform
DESCRIPTION:The case of Maribel Tuijllo Diaz broke the hearts of many people as we all watched a close-knit family be torn apart by a broken immigration system. Both Democrat and Republican officials in Ohio rallied on Maribel’s behalf\, so the question now is “When will Congress take action for comprehensive immigration reform?”\nJoin IJPC as we watch Frontline’s investigation “Immigration Battle” explaining how the 2013 bi-partisan legislation for immigration reform failed. We’ll have discussion as we watch the film to learn from our history and strategize for our future.\nDonations welcomed.

SUMMARY:Under The Gun Screening
DESCRIPTION:From Ceasefire: “Big news! Sandy Phillips\, the amazing gun violence prevention advocate who testified against the SCOTUS confirmation of gun lobby darling Neil Gorsuch\, is coming to Ohio for events across our state — including this one in Cincinnati! We’re teaming up for community events where we’ll be screening the award-winning documentary Under The Gun\, giving updates about pending state and federal gun legislation\, and giving Sandy the chance to share her story with folks across Ohio. \nLonnie and Sandy Phillips’ daughter\, Jessica Ghawi\, was murdered in the Aurora\, Colorado theater massacre in 2012. Since then\, they have become advocates for common-sense gun laws in America. Their non-profit\, Jessi’s Message\, allows them to take their trailer and travel the country telling their story and working with fellow victims and survivors of violence. \nUnder the Gun examines the events and people who have kept the gun debate fierce and the progress slow\, even as gun deaths and mass shootings continue to increase. Through the lens of families impacted by the mass shootings in Newtown\, Aurora\, Isla Vista and Tucson\, as well as those who experience daily gun violence in Chicago\, the documentary looks at why politicians are finding it difficult to act and what is being done at the state and local levels. The film is executive produced and narrated by Katie Couric and directed by Stephanie Soechtig.” \nFacebook Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1480290522022506/

SUMMARY:Pro-Action Café
DESCRIPTION:Now that you’ve attended one or more Rethinking Racism Open Space events\, or even if you’ve found this for the first time\, you might have found yourself thinking\, “Where can I go with my passion and energy?” “What can I do?” Rethinking Racism has been thinking about this\, too. We have a plan and you’re invited to participate! \nThe Pro-Action Café is a chance to bring any of your musings\, ideas\, projects and dreams to the table and have the opportunity to talk with others about their thoughts and ideas. Perhaps a workable plan will emerge and you will have some people to work with you – or you may find a project or plan that “strikes home” with you\, in which case you can be part of a group working on something about which you feel passionate. There will also be people who have experience and a level of expertise bringing their talents to the table in the form of information\, the “right” questions\, and recommendations. \nThe attached flyer gives the basic time\, place and registration information. Additionally\, we want you to know that\, because of the nature of the evening\, this is a limited attendance event. We can accommodate 50 people. RSVPs through eventbrite are necessary. \nOur hope is that out of this past year of talking\, sharing and listening\, will come action that will contribute to the raising up of equality and equity in our city.
