SUMMARY:Just Listening: A Workshop on Listening As an Act of Justice
DESCRIPTION:I have learned that when we begin listening to each other\, and when we talk about things that matter to us\, the world begins to change. Human conversation is the most ancient and easiest way to cultivate the conditions of change — personal change\, community\, and organizational change.”   -Margaret Wheatley\n\nAs our communities and planet continue suffering from injustice\, hate\, and disease\, we are now experiencing intense political divisiveness and strained public discourse. Whether in our local community of Cincinnati or on the national and global political stage\, civil discourse is necessary for peacemaking and community building. For effective discourse\, listening ‒ deep listening ‒ is required. In times of fear and anxiety listening can again become an effective tool. That is why we are pleased to offer as our program: a workshop on listening as the ultimate act of justice. \nREGISTER TODAY AND BRING A FRIEND! \nWorkshop Details\nWorkshop Leader: Sharon Browning \nSharon provides JUST Listening consultation and training to a wide range of organizations. She is an attorney\, former Executive Director of Philadelphia VIP\, the hub of pro bono legal services in Philadelphia\, and also taught for fifteen years in the Sociology Department at Chestnut Hill College\, Philadelphia. She is a trained mediator\, as well as a retreat facilitator\, spiritual guide and teacher\, focusing on the needs of marginalized individuals and groups. \nFor more information\, visit: https://justlistening.net \nCoffee and light refreshments provided. \nThis training will be offered with no cost but free will donations would be welcomed.

SUMMARY:The Narrow Path: Walking Toward Peace and Nonviolence with John Dear
DESCRIPTION:Nonviolent Cincinnati will be hosting this movie and discussion night. The movie shown will be “The Narrow Path: Walking Toward Peace and Nonviolence with John Dear.” Please reserve your ticket so we have an idea of how many people to expect. \nJohn Dear is a celebrated peace activist and the author of over twenty books; he also served as a chaplain ministering to the families of those killed on September 11th at the World Trade Centre. His life story has been a journey into the radical message of the Gospel and Jesus’ instruction to love our enemies. Following in the footsteps of the great apostles of nonviolence – Mahatma Gandhi\, Martin Luther King\, Jr.\, Dorothy Day\, Thomas Merton\, Oscar Romero and Daniel and Philip Berrigan – John Dear\, who has been arrested and imprisoned over 75 times\, crisscrosses the United States and the world tirelessly preaching the message of the nonviolent Jesus. Sadly\, this film will upset and disturb many people. But the Gospel is disturbing\, if you take it seriously. Making this film changed the lives of those who made it\, and I pray it changes the lives of many who watch it. — From the Director’s note\, Gerry Straub.

SUMMARY:Rally - Support the Dream Act
DESCRIPTION:As we continue fighting for the DREAM Act to pass after the Trump administration ended DACA on September 5\, we find ourselves in November and no DREAM Act. Many of the DACA recipients are students\, and many students have just finished up their midterms. Surprisingly enough\, this Congress term is almost done\, and we have yet seen any Greater Cincinnati area members of Congress co-sign the DREAM Act. \nYES will not stop pressuring our members of Congress until we see the DREAM Act pass. Along with our social media campaign\, YES will have a rally where we will give a midterm grade to our members of Congress for how they represent their commitment on immigration policy. Please join us Sunday\, November 12 outside Portman’s office as we give all of our members of Congress a midterm grade.
