SUMMARY:SOLD OUT - Race and Racism in Cincinnati Bus Tour
DESCRIPTION:UPDATE: The October 19th bus tour is sold out! Additional tour opportunities coming in Spring 2020. Stay tuned.  \nPlease join Rethinking Racism for a people’s history bus tour of the greater Cincinnati area as it relates to black and indigenous histories. \nOur two hour tour will begin in Northern Kentucky and travel throughout Cincinnati\, stopping at 6 sites of racial significance.  Volunteer tour guides will provide participants with relevant knowledge and food for thought. \nThe perspective of the tour derives from a legacy of peoples history or history from below. According to Urbana Peoples History project\, this type of history …attempts to account for historical events from the perspective of common people rather than political and other leaders. \nGiven that the collaborators on this project are not trained historians but interested citizens\, the information we’ll share is our attempt to bring more visibility to history that is usually unseen both in our city’s landscape and in our textbooks. \nSpace is limited so please register below and stay tuned for more tour dates next spring. We hope you can join us! \nRegister here.  \nFacebook event here.

SUMMARY:Daniel Rudd: Calling a Church to Justice
DESCRIPTION:In May of 1890\, The Christian Solider\, an African American newspaper\, identified the Catholic journalist and activist Daniel Arthur Rudd as the “greatest negro Catholic in America.” Yet many Catholics today are unaware of Rudd’s efforts to bring about positive social change during the early decades of the Jim Crow era. \nDr. Gary Agee\, Associate Professor of Church History at Anderson University will present a compelling look at the life and work of this visionary who found inspiration in his Catholic faith to fight for the principles of liberty and justice.

SUMMARY:Peace Committee Meeting: Staff reflection from time in Israel & Palestine
DESCRIPTION:Andrea Koverman\, SC\, will share a reflection of her time in Israel and Palestine.  Andrea and two other colleagues visited Israel and Palestine through HOPE (Holy Land Outreach Promoting Education). Their mission included visiting Jordan where they met Fr. Khalil Ja’ar\, Iraqi refugee families including some of the children\, who are enrolled in the refugee camp in Marka. In Bethlehem\, they visited Hogar Nino Dios\, a home for abandoned and disabled children and  the Aida Refugee camp. They shared information about a program called TLC (Trauma Loss in Children) and offered suggestions for emotional behavioral accommodations and modifications. Also water filters\, donated by the Sisters of Charity\, were brought to the refugee camps. One filter provides clean water for 5 families for 10 years and all that is needed is a bucket. \nThis is instead of the normal monthly Peace Committee meeting.
