SUMMARY:Way of the Cross for Justice - 2022
DESCRIPTION:Join in this Good Friday pilgrimage connecting the suffering of Jesus with the suffering brought about by injustice in our day. Friday\, April 15\, 2022 at 12:00 PM. \nThe event begins at noon at the National Underground Freedom Center where there will be a 30 minute prayerful gathering and instructions for next steps. Afterwards\, all are invited to follow the route of the Cincinnati Bell Connector (streetcar) and read the reflections that pair with the corresponding Connector stop. The closest stop can be found at The Banks – on Second St. between the Freedom Center and Great American Ball Park. \nReflections can be read online on your phone\, or from a handout given at the Freedom Center. New this year – you can listen to the reflections pre-recorded via podcast! Be sure to bring headphones with you to listen along on the streetcar. For a print friendly version of the reflection\, click here. \nA few notes: \n\nIt is free to ride the Connector’s 3.6-mile loop.\nBicycles\, wheelchairs and strollers can be taken onto the Connector.\nThe Connector comes every 12 minutes. Depending on the size of our group\, you may need to wait for another Connector so there is enough room.\nWe have made suggestions of locations where you can get off the Connector to pray through the reflection in the space and even walk to the next stop a short distance away. This is optional.\nYou are welcome to walk\, bike\, or drive along the Connector route if you prefer.\n\nAt the end\, we invite you to return to the Freedom Center with your ribbon to write a statement of hope – in anticipation of the resurrection – and attach it to the cross\, creating a tree of life from this symbol of death. Individuals will be welcomed back to the Freedom Center as they return\, we will not have a formal gathering of the full group. A member of the team will remain at the Freedom Center with the cross until 2:00 PM. \n  \nThank you to our supporters: \nBellarmine Chapel\nChrist Church Cathedral\nClifton United Methodist Church\nCongregation of Divine Providence\nGod Space Community\nImmaculate Heart of Mary Parish\nIntercommunity Justice and Peace Center (IJPC)\nRenting Partnerships \nPlease help spread the word to your network. Linked is a Way of the Cross – Flyer and the event Facebook page. \nQuestions? Allison@IJPCcincinnati.org or 513-864-5784

SUMMARY:Race and Racism in Cincinnati: A 3-Part Docuseries
DESCRIPTION:Race and Racism in Cincinnati\, a 3-part docuseries\, is the telling of Cincinnati’s history from the racial margins\, a history that is not often told in school curriculums or in mainstream (white) culture. This virtual tour is an evolution of our physical “Race and Racism in Cincinnati” bus tour\,  which launched during October\, 2019 and halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This video series shares a people’s history that places storytelling authority in the hands of common people\, rather than political leaders or other narrative leaders who have crafted narratives to benefit their agenda. \nThis series features three separate hour-long videos that each tackle a different time span\, starting from Cincinnati’s birth and bringing us to the present day. Each viewing will be followed by a discussion session. \nRegister here. \nVirtual Screening Times: \n\nPart 1\n\nThursday\, September 23rd\, 7:00pm – 9:00pm\nSaturday\, September 25th\, 10:30am – 12:30pm\n\n\nPart 2\n\nThursday\, October 14th\, 7:00pm – 9:00pm\nSaturday\, October 16th\, 10:30am – 12:30pm\n\n\nPart 3\n\nThursday\, November 4th\, 7:00pm – 9:00pm\nSaturday\, November 6th\, 10:30am – 12:30pm\n\n\n\nFor questions or to discuss organizational or large group showings please contact Bekky at bekky@IJPCcincinnati.org.

SUMMARY:Way of the Cross for Justice
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a re-imagined Way of the Cross for Justice this year. Together with our partners\, IJPC invites you to engage in a self-guided Good Friday pilgrimage connecting the suffering of Jesus with the suffering brought about by injustice in our day. \nThe pilgrimage will begin at St. Francis Seraph Church and get on the Cincinnati Bell Connector (streetcar) for free. At nine streetcar stops\, you can pray with corresponding reflections on your smartphone or printed program. Do this on your own\, at any time of the day\, or gather with masks and social distancing anytime between 12:00-2:00 PM. You may also walk\, bike\, or drive the route. \nThe program is available here. You can print the program from home or pick up a copy at St. Francis Seraph Church on Good Friday\, April 2\, 2021. \nHelp us spread the word and share this invitation with your friends or community. \nAs we remember that Jesus was put to death by the state\, we reflect and commit to ending the death penalty in Ohio\, and invite you to consider contributing to support IJPC’s work for abolition. \n

SUMMARY:Rethinking Racism presents: "Where do I go from here?"
DESCRIPTION:Only one month into the new year and already we’ve seen white supremacy show its face\, reminding us that despite some benefits of a new administration\, immeasurable work remains in the struggle to create anti-racist communities and systems. \nDuring “Where Do I Go From Here?” we’ll provide space to reflect on that question. Together\, we’ll discuss how each of us perceive the work behind us\, before us\, and what each of us will do to bring about the racial justice we seek. \nMonday\, February 15 \n6:30 – 8:00 PM \nRegister here to receive your Zoom link.

SUMMARY:You Can't Quarantine Racism: Discussing our Legacy of White Impunity
DESCRIPTION:The murders of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor  are absolutely tragic. Their needless deaths were motivated by a racial hatred that has existed since our country’s founding. While we mourn their loss\, we also mourn the countless black men and women who have been lynched before them. We’re outraged at their deaths and outraged that justice for them and their families has not been delivered; we’re outraged that video recording is a prerequisite for justice for black murder victims only. White people going unpunished for racist\, brutal acts is the rule\, not the exception\, in America. What will we do in this current moment to stop the murders of black and brown people\, to amplify the voices saying\, “#WeAreDoneDying“?\n\nJoin us for “You Can’t Quarantine Racism: Discussing our Legacy of White Impunity”\, an event aimed at providing space for inter and intraracial dialogue\, to grieve and process state sanctioned violence against African Americans\, and to explore how white allies must do better. \n\nAll are welcome to join in this participant-led\, candid conversation. Registration is required but free.\n\n\nWhat: “You Can’t Quarantine Racism” : Exploring Our Legacy of White Impunity\nWhen: Tuesday\, May 26\, 2020 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM\nWhere: Zoom conference call\n\nREGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT IS REQUIRED! Follow this link to reserve your spot on the Zoom conference call. Once you register\, a link and dial-in number will be sent to you in an email.\n\n\n\n\nNervous about using Zoom? Don’t fret! Our hosts will open the Zoom call 15 minutes before the meeting begins in order to answer any technology-related questions you might have.\nQuestions? Contact Jessie@IJPCcincinnati.org

SUMMARY:POSTPONED - Race and Racism in Cincinnati Bus Tour
DESCRIPTION:**Postponed due to public health concerns. More information to come.** \n  \n**TICKETS REQUIRED** \nOur 2 hour tour will travel throughout Cincinnati\, stopping at 6 sites of racial significance. Volunteer tour guides will provide participants with relevant knowledge and themes for further reflection. \nThe perspective of the tour derives from a legacy of people’s history\, or “history from below”. This type of history places storytelling authority in the hands of common people rather than political leaders or other mainstream narrative leaders who have typically crafted a singular\, common narrative to benefit their agenda. \nGiven that the collaborators on this project are not trained historians but interested citizens\, the information we’ll share is our attempt to bring more visibility to history that is usually unseen both in our city’s landscape and in our textbooks. \nEmail: Jessie@IJPCcincinnati.org \nDetails: \n– The tour will begin and end at Peaslee Neighborhood Center. Limited parking is available in the Peaslee lot and street parking is available on Sycamore. \n– Please arrive for your tour 30 minutes prior to the event start. We will leave promptly at the time listed (9:30 am on March 28\, 2 pm on April 5). \n– Following the tour\, there will be an optional but recommended opportunity to join us for a tour debrief in the Peaslee lobby. The debrief will last approximately an hour\, but feel free to stay for as much as you’d like. \n– Please bring a reusable water bottle\, if you’d like (water will not be provided). \n  \n***Private Tours: we’re working hard to offer tours for private groups – church groups\, book clubs\, schools\, etc. in Fall 2020. SUMMARY:Community Event: Confinement\, Politics of Space and Bodies - CAC Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Symposium: February 29-March 1.  \nIJPC program manager\, Jessie Frank\, will be a speaker at the symposium on Saturday\, February 29th for Pairing 1\, “Institutional and Industrial Complexes: Confinement\, a Governmental Construction?” \n— \nThe group exhibition Confinement: Politics of Space and Bodies\, on view until March 1st at the Contemporary Arts Center\, Cincinnati (CAC)\, centers around the safety provided by restricted spaces\, while also evoking constriction and restriction. It discusses the effects of institutional systems of confinement and approaches notions of mobility and movement. In conjunction with the University of Cincinnati\, the CAC is proposing a two-day symposium the last weekend of the exhibition devoted to this ambiguous notion of “confinement.” This event will allow an in-depth conversation between film scholars\, faculty\, students\, exhibited artists and the general audience and aims to raise and possibly answer questions of established narratives: ownership over bodies and mapping out confinement through stories of resistance and surrender. \nThe program consists of three panels\, during which invited scholars and faculty will be conversing with artists from Confinement\, along with guests and visitors. For the first time\, the walls of Géographie\, the cell installation at the center of the exhibition\, which remained closed throughout its duration\, will be open to the public\, and film screenings will be organized inside of the artwork. Through this process of revelation\, the CAC offers an inside-view of the room\, which saw the confinement of three dancers. \nRead more about the symposium here.

SUMMARY:Peace Committee Meeting: NO to War in Iraq
DESCRIPTION:In killing Iranian Gen. Suleimani on Friday\, the Trump administration made its most significant use of military force to date. With this escalation of violence\, t is imperative that we join people all over the country demanding that the US not send additional troops to Iraq\, and that we refuse to enter into war with Iran. Join our Peace Committee meeting to discuss how we can say no to war with Iran locally.

SUMMARY:Community Event: Homeless Memorial Day
DESCRIPTION:Join the Greater Cincinnati Homeless Coalition this Friday to honor those who had their lives cut short by homelessness. \n“This Friday\, December 20th\, we will gather at 5:30PM in Washington Park (across from Music Hall).  Together we will call the names of those we lost to homelessness this year.  We will honor them by looking to the future\, as we plan to take big strides in 2020 in our mission to end homelessness.  You can come and speak\, pray\, sing or simply be quiet.  Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. \nPlease click here to let us know about anyone who died in 2019 while experiencing homelessness or as a result of homelessness after reaching housing so that we may include them in our memorial gathering.  If you are unable to share a person’s full name\, that is okay.  If you are able to include a person’s date of birth or age\, please do.\nClick here for a flyer to hang or pass out. \n(While National Homeless Memorial Day is on Dec. 21 which is the longest night of the year\, we are gathering on Dec. 20th.)” \n \n
